SPREP Launches Climate Change Toolkit for Pacific Media[viewed]

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has launched a toolkit to support journalists in the Pacific region in effectively communicating on climate change and related environmental issues. The toolkit consists of a series of factsheets containing information on different aspects of climate change, and a manual of activities for improving journalists' climate change reporting and interview techniques.

UNEP Foresight Report Identifies Emerging Issues for SIDS[viewed]

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has published a report on priority issues for small island developing States (SIDS). ‘Emerging Issues for Small Island Developing States: Results of the UNEP Foresight Process' is one of UNEP's contributions to the Third International SIDS Conference convening in Apia, Samoa, in September 2014, and it is aligned with one of the thematic issues of the Conference: “identify new and emerging challenges and opportunities for the sustainable development of SIDS and ways and means to address them.”

Event: Regional Capacity-Building Workshop for the Pacific Region on Traditional Knowledge and Customary Sustainable Use under the CBD[viewed]

At this workshop, participants will consider, among other items: the CBD Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets; participation of indigenous and local communities (ILCs) in the work of the Convention; Articles 8(j) (traditional knowledge), 10(c) (customary sustainable use) and related provisions, and current work in preparation for the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12); the Joint Programme of Work between the CBD Secretariat and the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Biological and Cultural Diversity and ILCs; and ILCs and the Nagoya Protocol.
